Trio Educational Talent Search is a Federally funded TRiO program designed to encourages youths to take an active interest in developing and pursuing academic, career, and personal goals.

The program provide students with the skills and motivation needed to achieve academic success, graduate from middle and high school, and eventually enter college, trade school, or some form of postsecondary training. US staff work with middle school students to prepare them for high school and high school students to prepare for college or a career of their choice. It is the intent of the program to have the student enroll in Talent Search as early as 6th grade and continue with the program until high school graduation. Talent Search also provides services to students who are interested in obtaining a GED and assists students and young adults with reentering high school or college. Through the combined efforts of our Talent Search staff, NYC district 5  Schools, parents, and students, our program participants will get an important head start on learning about college and career opportunities.

Eligibility

Our program services are offered to middle school students between the 6th and 8th grades, and high school students between the 9th and 12th grades. Young adults no older than 27 years of age are also eligible for our services. Program participants are primarily students who fall under the low-income guidelines and are first-generation college students (meaning their parents did not graduate from a 4-year college). Completion of an application packet is also necessary.

How can Talent Search help you?

• Fall and Spring NYS Regents and SAT Exam Preparation Course
  NYS Regents Subject and SAT exam preparation is offered during the fall and spring semesters, with an emphasis on test-taking skills.
• Tutorial Service
  Talent Search offers a tutoring program that has an emphasis on math, English, and science. It runs throughout the school year and provides students with the opportunity to receive individual attention.
• Counseling Service
  A Talent Search counselor is available for academic, personal, and career counseling year-round.
• Financial Aid Service
  Counselors are available to provide students with information about obtaining financial aid and assistance with filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form. Information about scholarships is also provided. Financial Literacy Workshops for both students an parents are also provided.
• College Tours and Cultural Trips
  Outings are offered to expose students to various institutions of higher education and enrich students’ minds.
• Summer Enrichment and activities,
  A nonresidential program structured around basic math and English skills and preparation for the SAT exams is offered in the summer. Students develop test-taking skills and participate in computer classes, workshops, and cultural, social, and recreational activities.
